The Consul General of Turkmenistan in the Islamic Republic of Iran held a meeting with the newly appointed UNHCR Head of Sub-Office to Mashhad

On October 24, 2024, in the Consulate General of Turkmenistan to the Islamic Republic of Iran in the city of Mashhad a meeting was held between the Consul General of Turkmenistan to the Islamic Republic of Iran in Mashhad city and Dhananjaya Bhattarai the newly appointed UNHCR Head of Sub-Office to Mashhad.

At the beginning of the meeting, both sides noted with satisfaction that cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Nations is continuously developed and in particular, a great importance is given to the strong ties of Turkmenistan with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The diplomats also said that the “IBELONG” campaign of the organization to eradicate statelessness in the world was successfully completed and that our country’s experience in this regard can be used as a model for other countries.

Dhananjaya Bhattarai gave a high value to Turkmenistan's undertakings to remove statelessness in the world. The parties also discussed the migration situation of the countries in the region, the introduction of international humanitarian law into the legislation and other important migration issues.
