DELEGATION OF TURKMENISTAN PARTICIPATES TO THE 14TH CONFERENCE OF THE PARTIES TO THE UNITED NATIONS CONVENTION TO COMBAT DESERTIFICATION

On the 9th of September 2019, the Ministerial meeting in the framework of the 14th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification under the slogan “Investing in land, Unlocking opportunities” has started in New Delhi, India. 

The Prime-minister of India Mr.Narendra Modi and the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Ms.Amina Mohammed took part in the opening ceremony where they have stated the major significance of carrying out the works on combatting the desertification as one of the fundamental components of attaining the Sustainable Development Goals.  More than 8000 delegates from 160 countries are participating to the Conference.    

The delegation of Turkmenistan has also arrived to New Delhi to take part in the Conference.  The representative of Turkmenistan presented a report on the achievements of the country on combatting the desertification and land degradation. 

The participants were also acquainted with the initiative of the President of Turkmenistan on establishing a Special UN Programme for the Aral Sea basin that was proposed by him at the “Rio+20” Summit in Rio de Janeiro.  During the speech, the efforts of Turkmenistan in the process of improving the ecologic and social-economic situation in the Aral Sea basin as the country chairing the IFAS were emphasized.
